FORESTVILLE, NY (June 23, 2011) – Merritt Estate Winery held their annual free Strawberry Festival this past weekend to raise money for the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Scholarship Fund. Buffalo Sabres Alumni and current Buffalo Sabres in-game commentator Rob Ray attended the event to help fundraising efforts.

The Strawberry Festival was held on June 11-12 at the winery. The event was in its thirty-first year and was deemed a success by all those involved.

Through parking lot donations, a silent auction and customized wine bottle sales, Merritt Winery and Rob Ray collected over $5,000 to donate to the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Scholarship Fund. The event also had a classic car and motorcycle cruise-in, children’s bounce house, Sangria Wine Slush, craft vendors and live music all weekend.

“The weekend went well overall and we were very pleased with the attendance despite the weather,” said Jason Merritt, General Manager of Merritt Estate Winery. “Rob is a great guy with a big heart so it was a pleasure working with him throughout the weekend. He also loved his customized wine bottles!” said Merritt. The limited edition Bella Rosa wine bottles with custom Rob Ray autographed labels were available throughout the weekend and will continue to be available for purchase at the winery.

Every year, the winery holds their annual Strawberry Festival in June and Septemberfest in September to raise money for a charity located in western New York. The Buffalo Sabres Alumni Scholarship Fund was chosen because of their outreach to high school students trying to attend college with community-oriented careers in mind.

“We always support charities that have an immediate impact on our community,” said Edwin Rodriguez Jr., Marketing and Promotions person for Merritt Estate Winery. “Our events wouldn’t be possible without the donations from local businesses, sponsorships and volunteers that help us plan our festival each year,” said Rodriguez.
