Liberty Vineyards & Winery

Because great vines make great wines.
Liberty Vineyard’s triple-Gold winning Rufus Red wine was named for Gary Burmaster’s great grandpa Rufus Butler who established the winery’s first grape vineyards in Sheridan, New York in the 1860’s. The Burmaster farm has been a productive grape farm ever since, with each of the last three generations planting different grape varieties. All of the grapes used in Liberty Vineyard’s wines are grown locally (most are grown right on the winery property.)
After years of selling their fine grapes to other wineries, wine-loving Gary and Pam Burmaster and their daughter Beth decided to expand their operation to include a winery. Liberty Vineyards & Winery opened in February 2008. They now produce 23 wines and take great pride in nurturing their grapes and wine from the moment they trim the vines to the moment the cork is sealed in the bottle.
From the décor to the wine, Liberty Vineyards is a delightful fusion of old and new. The tasting room features antique lighting and a grand wall of fine wood cupboards and shelves that once graced an historic local tobacco shop as its humidor. Now, the humidor is the focal point of an inviting, contemporary space where you taste a variety of award-winning wines, shop for unique wine-related items or relax in a comfortable seating area.
Liberty creates a variety of wines from their premium dry reds to the sweet wines in their classic “Rock and Roll” series, including Lucy’s In the Sky, White Side of Moon and Purple Haze, and everything in between. Modern making and bottling equipment allow the Burmaster’s to continue the wine-making tradition started by Grandpa Rufus long ago.
